WEDZ Brief

Founded in 1993, WuJiang Economic Development Zone (WEDZ) is a province-level economic development zone approved by Jiangsu provincial government. In May 2002, it was formally named by Jiangsu province as a Provincial Production Base of Electronic information industry. WEDZ together with SuzhouSingapore industry zone, Suzhou New District, KunShan economic development zone are the members of national information industry. Export processing zone and national (WuJiang) monitor part industry zone are newly approved. WEDZ are divided by optical electronic industry zone, Korea investment Zone, Private investment zone and processing trade intraconnected inspection zone, etc. There are more than 500 enterprises in WEDZ from all over the world with registered capital of $3.6 billion, invested capital $2 billion，the turnover in 2004 reached $8.8 billion with industry output 50 billion RMB.

The planned and controlled area of WEDZ is 80km2 and it is divided into three sub-districts: WestCanalSub-district, EastCanalSub-district and Southern Sub-district. It connects Suzhou in the north (it is 9 kms from Suzhou, 18kms from Suzhou New District and 10 kms from Suzhou Singapore Industrial Park), Borders Tai Lake in the west (It is 10kms from East Tai Lake), links Shanghai in the east (it is 86kms from Shanghai Hongqiao international Airport and 125kms from Pudong Development Zone) and neighbors Hangzhou in the south (it is 135kms from Hangzhou). WEDZ is the central area of the Yangtze River Delta economic area.

Transportation to WEDZ is convenient through SuJiaHang express way and SuJiaHang complementary express way. There are many exit of those two express way in the Zone. Through these two express way connected with HuQingPing expressway, 318 national road, HuNing expressway and SuHu express way, plus local traffic roads one can reach to Shanghai in a very convenient manner.

There are more than 500 enterprises in WEDZ, the majority of them are in IT enterprises, with a few automobile parts and precise machinery and precise machinery enterprises, to optimize the industry structure and encourage the development of predominant industry. The following five industries are encouraged, optical electronics, information technology, automobile parts, precise industry.

There are Customs Direct Office and LogisticsCenter in WEDZ and they work as port customs. In line with the principle of offering good service, Wujiang Customs handles cases for 24 hours and can offer on-site service. The first state-approved processing business Networking Supervision District was planned and constructed in the first half year of 2002 and it has been completed for use now.
