The number of building material industrial enterprises in 2004 registered 15,672, an increase of 6.5%. Of it the privately-run enterprises developed rapidly. Till December, 2004, the number of private enterprises reached 6,260, an increase of 11.17% on year-on-year basis; the number of limited liability companies amounted by 8.6% to 2,457, accounting for 16%; the number of enterprises from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign countries increased by 5.5% to 1,469, accounting for 9%; in contrast, the number of stated-owned enterprises decreased by 0.21% to 1,394, accounting for 9%; that of collective one accounted for 16%; that of joint-stock companies accounted for 4%. The enterprises from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and foreign countries mainly focused on such regions as cement, sheet glass, processing class, architectural ceramics, sanitary ceramics and glass fiber.
